Lyrics (c) by Bethany Joy Lenz
I always said that I would make mistakes
She was right. She had been absolutely right. It was funny how something that absolutely haunted her, her dreams and her waking hours, could bring her such joy. Andarial was pregnant. It had only been half about one fourth of a season and Andee already had a slight swell to her belly. She hadn't felt her babies kick yet and that was something she looked forward to. Heck everything she looked forward to. The first litter of the season would be hers. A warm glow had encompassed her eyes. She was more careful now, no longer going hunting for big gameand no longer fighting Andee did not want to hurt these precious presents in her womb.
I'm only human and that's my saving grace
She sat with her tail curled around her paws and watchedas the sun rose. She had not seen Kotori for sometime and she missed him. The beautiful orange and red colors reminded her of his eyes. How horribly in love with this cat she was. She smiled and purred as the sun began to warm her fur. Suddenly she was up and dashing down the rocks at amazing speed. The pregnancy had not made her any slower yet. So fast she was almost a blur she was speeding across the landscape. Her golden eyes squinted against the wind and her ears laid flat. She reveled in the feel of the wind in her fur.
I fall as hard as I try
She was then dancing. Spinning and pouncing at things that didn't exist. Happiness just consumed her. But then she froze. Something was happening, she narrowed her eyes and stared out at the dark clouds gathering in the distance. A flash of lightning and the clap of thunder, the Raining Season had finally arrived with its first huge storm. She made her way to a large baoboa tree and curled up at the cave made by its great roots reaching up above ground.
So don't be blinded.

Na’ara
A small snow leopard was laying under nieth the roots of the boaboa tree. Na’ara had been watching the cat for some time now. The cat had set her paws in the wrong place. Na’ara had been using the trees roots for a nest.
This snow leopard had a mean sort of look on her, like a fighter. But this cat wouldn’t be a problem. Nope, Na’ara was positive that she wouldn’t have trouble this cat. In fact, Na’ara was one hundred percent sure that this snow leopard was pregnant, she could tell because the cats stomach was starting to bulge. And, unless she was absolutely crazy and didn’t give a care about her cubs, she wouldn’t fight.
Na’ara stood up from behind the bush she was crouched behind, and charged towards the snow leopard, skidding to a halt just infront of the intrance to the little root cave.
“What are you doing in my den!”

Andarial watched the clouds that were slowly drifting closer and closer. The thunder sounded and the lightning kept flashing. Yet still no rain fell. How strange and unfortunate was this. They needed rain right now, even though everything was being watered by the melting snow it would still be nice to have rain in some parts. Like the dry plains. It was always nice to see the flowers bloom and the grass turn that delicate shade of green. She blinked as another cat came up to her.
This cat held its position dominant. Andee stood and her power of dominance overpowered the other cats. A low growl erupted from her chest. "Your den?" she scoffed. "You have no right of claiming this territory when it and all of Lashia's land is mine and my pack's." She stood with her tail lashing and her mind revelign in whatshe had just said. She had practically challenged this cat but could not even fight. If she had too she would scream and call one of her fighters.

Na’ara
“Well its mine now! Get out of here, or you’ll pay!” Na’ara spat back.
She knew that she was probably not doing the right thing, but what else could she do. She needed somewhere to live, and she was getting desperate. You could see it in her body.
Her ribs were showing, every one of them! Her eyes were dull, and her muscles were weak. She was so hungry that she thought she was seeing things. Her nasal passages were clogging up, she thought that she was coming down with a cold.
To her left was a rustle in the bushes.
She looked.
A small chipmunk stumbled drowsily through the bush. Then it froze, and looked up. Its eyes swelled in fear, then it darted back into the bush.
Na’ara looked back at the snow leopard.

Chip
The chipmunk was tired as he stumbled into that bush. He and Nelsi had been walking all morning. Chip had been looking for nuts to eat, while the big liger had been looking for some prey.
As Chip pushed through the other side of the bush a weird sent hit his nose.
Another cat!
Chip looked up. A well muscled female jaguar stood confronting Andee, the she cat Nelsi had meet a couple of days ago.
Suddenly, the jaguar turned her head towards him. Fear struck him so hard that he felt like his heart had leaped into his throte.
He turned and ran back to where he came from. Back to Nelsi, he would know what to do. Luckily he was just a few trees away!

Nelsi
The large liger crouched, he saw his prey, a large raccoon was napping under a bush just ten tail lengths away.
Suddenly there was a crash in the bush to his right and the raccoon was scared off.
Chip, the chipmunk he met a few days ago, scurried out in front of him, “Nelsi-”
He cut him off right there. “Why did you do that! That was my breakfast!”
The chipmunk ignored him, “Nelsi, there’s a mean looking jaguar over that way!” he pointed in the direction that he came from, “ She’s got Andee cornered under some Boaboa roots!”
Nelsi groaned, and stood. “Ok, where are they?” he asked reluctantly.

Was he a coward? Asking Kotori that would risk your own life, but in his own head, he wondered, and in that wondering doubted himself. It was risky business to doubt yourself, especially when the very terrain in which you walked asked of your full attention. He was lucky, if nothing else -- his breed was made for the mountains and he walked with a oneness that bordered on ghostly; his pelt made him nearly invisible among the last remaining snow, the white stone glinting so powerfully against rolling clouds. There was nothing but the glimpse of his eye, his burning, churning eye. It was downcast now, but that was neither here nor there, but instead somewhere in the center where he was balancing his precipitous attraction to a female as untrustworthy as he.
How could he have done it? Did he love her? No. Of that he could say he didn't, but for a cat that didn't understand love, had never felt it before, could he really make such a judgement? Once, Kotori had been defined by his hatred of the world, then later, his anger, a fire which torched him under his skin and made him dangerously playful. Now though, he was a ghost of that self, a quiet wraith that walked where he pleased, ate where he pleased - though rarely, now - and slept whenever living was too painful. Eventually the pain had disappeared, but it was a fresher wound than the one that Olya had fed him with her brittle poison. He had killed her, of course, but still, it was with a certain trepidation he dealt with the life he was leading.
Time blurred for him, the world turned when he wasn't looking until, much to his surprise he found the round, full moon gazing at him in sadness. Where was his fire? His passion? His lusts? Even the wolves had been saved from his straying prick, his straying desires for morbidity. Nothing but mice, and rabbits, nothing but air and a false sense of freedom. He was living in a cage, and restlessness was too lazy to work into his bones; instead he existed in lethargy, looking hollow, looking like nothing he used to be.
The image was the same, make no doubt. He was still powerful, muscles still writhed beneath his glorious pelt and his body still threatening, but there was a slight difference in him: a sagging of his shoulders, or a line of his flanks. Or perhaps, like all things, it was more than that: his passion for life, his stubbornness, the things that made Kotori himself were missing and the hollow image broke down and he was another creature, another face of nothingness that breathed and slept and did not do much else. He had not even spoken in the month that went by, even as the rain buried itself in his bones and he refused to go near the dens. Instead he remained chilled of heart, chilled of bone, his soul flagging, dying, dying.
Without thought, without conviction he found her. Without even the slightest idea that his body had followed a path he had forbidden himself, he came across the scene before him: female to female, one pale, the other bright, vicious, feral -- was there intelligence in her eyes? "Get out of here or you'll pay, he mocked, his voice pitched higher than the rolling purr of his usual tone, but his voice was raspy, a huskiness that usually did not touch him. Disuse made his voice burn. "You can barely walk, and you're threatening someone? Bad form, very bad form."
Was that life that sparked his eye? No, no ... just a dull boredom that fell from his shoulders like oil, though he dared not look at Andee as he curled his haunches beneath himself, the rain just starting to pelt him. He did not care, did not even look up as the rain began and the clouds rolled over themselves and moved; his eyes remained dead, cold, distant as he stared at the golden creature, unable to even make himself rouse.

Even though she had noticed Kotori before theother cat had her eyes stayed down and focused on the other cat. She listened as Kotori made fun of the jaguar. Suddenly a scream of rage erupted from Andee and she leaped at the other female. She flung herself at her and Andarial had her paws reached out in front of her with her nails unsheathed and her mouth open. Anger and fury erupted from her. How darethis cat say it was her land! She landed and then was upagain and was aiming straight for the she-cat.
PErhaps this would knock Kotori out of his slump. Seeing his beloved, or perhaps ex-beloved tangled in a fight. Showing that her fierce and beauty still existed. Her claws reached for skin and her teeth and throat ached for blood. She had been denied of a fight for so long. HAtred for this cocky female roiled through her bones just like the lightning roiled through the clouds. Then suddenly a deluge came down with a clap of thunder.

Na’ara
She was out numbered.
Na’ara had seen the big tom come from the corner of her eye. The she-cat in front of her had seemed sort of agitated before she screamed and lunged at Na’ara. And now, with the female snow leopard standing over her, there was only one thing she knew she could do. She didn’t want to, but she had to.
At this point she was lying on her side; she couldn’t do what she planned to in this position.
Na’ara rolled onto her back.
The snow leopard had left her stomach exposed. Na’ara batted at the cat’s swollen stomach. She hit that cat with barely enough force to shift her body upwards so Na’ara could slip out.
Quickly, Na’ara stood up and ran towards the bushes where she saw the chipmunk disappear.
She was less than a tails length away, when there was a russle in the bush. Na’ara was about to stop when a tan figure slammed into her.
She fell onto her back.

Nelsi
Nelsi charged in the direction that chip had told him to go in. As he came to the last bush the fear scent of a cat came to his nose. Through the bush he could see the golden pelt of a jaguar. He didn’t know any jaguars, so he desided that he would see what was going on.
He ran straight through the bush and slammed into the jaguar.
(I don't mind, the more the better!)

It was a bluff, of sorts. Not one judged by other creature's standards, but definitely a bluff in Kotori's eyes. He couldn't care, not even with her so near, with her belly starting to round out -- a poignant reminder that he had lost. No, not even that, it wasn't that he lost. Ironically, it wasn't that that bothered him. No, it was that she had given in. No... let's be honest Kotori. For once, be honest with yourself.
She gave in to the jaguar's need, but not to his own. That was the problem, and would remain a problem until she was cleaned of his foul taint. Lips curved slightly, a false smile at the creature before him, the golden femme, frail for all that she was a predator. Twice the fool, for she not only was ignorant of the land she stepped on, but that she would taunt anyone with her body in such bad condition. Let alone the vicious fiend who claimed this territory for her own. Pah. She'd fight this creature without even batting a lash. Oh, what a cruel, brooding mood the snow leopard had woken in. Such a horrid, foul mood.
Kotori's own frame, you're wondering? Oh, think nothing of it -- while the others starved on the credence of their Alpha femme, this wandering heroine who looked perhaps too far into the future, he fed daily. Or at least twice a week. He did not starve -- it was not in him to starve when there was fresh life around him, and not even for her would he let himself become a bag of bones. Enough that she had unmanned him, yes please, let that be enough.
So she attacked, and he, darling little creature that he was, turned his burning eye away; in fact, his paws had moved him, placing themselves on the ground seemingly of their own volition as his tail roved, his muscles bunching. No restlessness this, but a supreme boredom with life, a shell he had brought up around him in the cold mountain air where he had slept and slept for days on end, dreams coming silvery soft and elusive; he woke never knowing what he dreamed. At the time it hadn't mattered much but eventually that retreat would mark another spot of shame on him, a coward's move toward listlessness. He didn't think of it now, though and shifting his body, climbed to his feet and moving much like the slow, graceless walk of a bear was leaving, turning his body from this boring display. Until the she-leopard got to Andee's swollen belly.
He didn't know what made him turn to look, and he didn't care, but he witnessed it, and a burning satisfaction filled him, wretched and vile as his lips turned upward, fangs protruding from thick gums, ear turned down. Squirming away, she seemed to wiggle free and disappear. "Vermin." he snickered, eyeing Andee sidelong. "And you, what have you become?"
A snort, a rolling of his shoulders as he picked up sounds of a larger creature, mouth gaping open as the air caressed the scenting glands in his jaws and his body prickled, fur rising in growing agitation. "Male." he said, disgust thick in his tone. "You attract them well, don't you?" he mocked, voice pitched down to emulate a mutter, though it was obvious it was meant for her alone to hear. He laughed then, a pitiless sound like iron scraping against iron; the friction burned his throat and made it all the more hysterical. So he chimed in, looking much like a creature who was on the verge of losing his wits. "You might as well come out brute, our fair lady has already gotten with brats and you, poor sap, too late to take the treasure."
His tail ticked, a silent laughter ruffling the fur around his neck and shoulders. Foul mood, indeed. word count;; 652 tags;Nel // Andee OOC;; he's a tad bit bitter ain't he?
