Ruko padded through the forest, looking all around her as she did. There was no doubt about it; she was lost. Why hadn't she paid more attention when her brother described the way to the Traitors? Because she had thought he would be there to guide her. Well, he wasn't. She was only a year-old and she was on her own, trying to find the Traitors. Life sucked.
As Ruko walked along, lost in her own thoughts, she stepped on a twig. Freezing instinctively, she paused for a moment, and then dashed up the closest tree. Clinging to the bark for dear life, she studied the ground below, and was relieved when no one came into view. She was just being paranoid, and imagining things. Stop it! she scolded herself fiercely. Calm down! Making her way down the bark, Ruko's ears pricked up, trying to catch the sound of anything. As she didn't hear a sound, Ruko leapt off the tree, landing squarely on all fours, and resumed her padding through the forest.
Her stomach growled slightly. She hadn't eaten anything since yesterday, and that was only a small squirrel. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a bird pecking at nuts on the roots of a tree. Dropping into a crouching position, she began to slowly creep toward the bird. The bird seemed unaware that she was there, until it stopped, and tilted its head. Ruko held her breath, freezing completely still. After what seemed like an eternity, the bird went back to pecking at nuts. Ruko leapt forward at the bird, who began to fly into the air, but she swatted it out of the air, and pinned it to the ground. The bird let out one last loud cry, before Ruko ended its life with a bite to the neck. Satisfied, she began to eat.
