Fishing

Midori sat at the edge of the stream and stared into the sparkling water. He hadn't had much luck lately with his hunting, it seemed the furry little snacks were a bit too fast for him lately, and he had decided to try his paw at getting a fish. Below him he could see the shimmer of their scales, the tantalizing swish of their tails, and then there was the grumble of his stomach where he sat. His own tail swished back and forth in unison with his prey as if such a connection would help. A few times he took practice swings above the water as he tested how it would work. He had seen others do it, then it had seemed so simply, but this was a first for the canine. Birds above him twittered their songs yet his ears weren't enjoying their lovely tune. Instead it was more of a nuisance and he turned to glare at them before looking back to the water. There was a fine plump salmon coming his way and he readied himself. He stood motionless with his tail now waving like a flag. His paw was hanging just above the water before just the right moment. Then he struck and then it was over.

No fish in his paw and he was suddenly soaked. Unfortunately he had misfigured his approach, threw off his balance, and landed up to his haunches in the stream. A scowl was on his muzzle as a chill ran up his spine from the cold temperature.
